My "Day Job" is running CompanyV.com a wonderful little company that specializes in niche needs and all things internet.
I grew up in Joliet Illinois and moved to California in the mid 70's. I was fortunate at that time to find the most interesting jobs !
My life seemed to bounce me between art and technology...
1976 - 1994 Outdoor Advertising
I was fortunate to be hired by Pacific Outdoor Advertising in 1976 as an apprentice in Los Angeles.
I was the first female in the union in Los Angeles and Pacific Outdoor was an amazing place. There were so many talented artists and the billboards on Sunset strip were all works of art!
Of course as an apprentice I was not the one producing those works of art but I did have the benefit of being able to learn from some of the fine talent assembled there.
By the early 90's computer technology was rolling through every business in America displacing old ways of doing things. Outdoor advertising was no exception. By 1994 the cost of producing a hand painted billboard was approximately 14.00 per square foot, while a computer paint system could do it for about 2.50 per square foot.
I was fortunate to be selected to be a part of a re-engineering team for Gannett Outdoor in the 90's (by that time Pacific Outdoor had been purchased by Gannett). Dilbert chronicled the history of "re-engineering" about as clearly as any historian possibly could.
When Gannett Outdoor was sold in 1996 I was learning all about the "internet" in my spare time. How to make images under 2k so a website would load before a user fell asleep. Ah the good old days of no bandwidth, no storage and no WYSIWYG programs!
From those humble beginnings my current career and company developed.
I recently developed an urge to paint again, but I have taken over a lot of space in our living quarters for rehabbing squirrels... (another story for another time) so the idea of smelling the place up with paints seemed like a potential deal breaker with the love of my life... so I started drawing in pencil. I never drew much more than sketches for paintings and I am fully enjoying pencil at the moment!
